UPDATE: The abduction resumes, known-captures want ransom now

(Muujis) If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, even in Somalia. Last night, several Somali news agencies, including VOA-Somali reported about an abduction incident in Galka’yo, Somalia. As usual, the story was later picked up by the western media.  Such activity is not unusual in that part of the world but some of the people who were reportedly involved in the abduction (journalist’s guards) addition to his sudden release from the “pirate city” Hobyo raises a red flag.

The American journalist is Michael Scott Moore working on a book about pirates.  Somalireport.com claims Moore was released after local clan elders reasoned with the abductors.  Although, clan elders have substantial influence in local regional affairs, many will doubt the effectiveness of their role in these kind of situations. Moore was supposedly abducted from South Galka’yo, and brought to Hobyo; and then released.
